Boost Mobile Pro Trials to Take Place in Huntington Beach, CA on July 26th and 27th
IRVINE, Calif. & COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Boost Mobile and Hurley today announced the names of the trialists invited to compete for the coveted wildcard entry into the 2007 Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley, the only Foster’s ASP World Tour event held on mainland USA. The trials feature ten high performance surfers, including 2000 ASP World Champion, Sunny Garcia.
“I have been sitting in jail for the first half of the year so I am stoked to be able to surf for a spot in the contest…. I am ecstatic actually,” Garcia said. “I just feel sorry for the other nine guys who are going for the one final spot.”
The Boost Mobile Pro trials will take place during the Honda U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27. The trials will run two five-man heats, with the top two winners of each heat competing head to head in a sudden death final. The top two scorers in the final will each secure a wildcard spot to compete at this year’s Boost Mobile Pro.
Also selected as a wildcard into the event is former ASP World Tour runner-up and perennial surf fan favorite Rob Machado. Machado, who is sponsored by both Boost Mobile and Hurley, will also appear as a special guest on the live webcast for the Boost Mobile Pro.
The Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley Wildcard Shootout is as follows:
Heat 1: July 26, 3:30pm: Tim Curran, Sunny Garcia, Yadin Nichol, Ian Walsh, Jay Sharpe
Heat 2: July 26, 4:00pm: Dane Reynolds, Brett Simpson, Jamie O’Brien, Hank Gaskell, Makua Rothman
Finals: July 27, 3:50pm: Top 2 Winners from Heat 1 and Top 2 Winners from Heat 2
“We’re thrilled to have continued alignment with the legendary U.S. Open,” said Chris Ernst, senior manager events & sponsorships, Boost Mobile. “And with a literal showdown between ten of the hottest names in surfing, it could end up unsettling the waters at the Boost Mobile Pro in September, and even impact the overall ASP World Title picture.”
"This is a great opportunity for our young athletes to test their skills against the best in the world,” said Pat O’Connell, surf marketing manager, Hurley. “They will be surfing in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and that pressure will help prepare them for an even bigger stage -- the Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley."
The sixth of ten stops on the Foster’s ASP World Tour, the Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley’s full schedule of events and media registration will be available soon at www.boostmobilepro.com. Check back for a live webcast of the main event at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, September 9-15, 2007.
